CREATIVE PRACTICE A FONS LEARNING NOTE

From a first idea to a body of work.

You do not need a perfect idea to begin. You need a question worth exploring and a way to make your thinking visible.

From a first idea to a body of work.

Choose a small creative brief.

Give yourself a clear subject and a manageable constraint. Tell a story in five photographs, redesign a familiar object or make three studies of the same scene. A focused brief gives you something concrete to respond to.

Keep the process.

Save sketches, experiments and decisions as well as finished outcomes. They help you see how an idea develops and give you material for explaining your work to someone else. Reflection is part of the practice.

Seek useful feedback.

Ask a specific question about your work. Is the message clear? Does the sequence make sense? Which detail draws attention first? Specific questions make feedback easier to act on.

Curate with intention.

A small, thoughtful selection can say more than a large collection. Choose work that shows different strengths and explain the context, your contribution and what you learned. Your portfolio can grow with your practice.
